Ofer graduated from the Interdisciplinary Program for Outstanding Students at Tel-Aviv University, Israel, where he received both his B.Sc and his Ph.D. in computer science. For his Ph.D. research, Ofer worked on acquisition and analysis of Diffusion MRI, aiming to increase the amount of imaging information obtained for complex brain architecture. Ofer joined the PNL in October 2009 as a Fulbright post-doctoral fellow, working under the joint supervision of Professor Shenton at the PNL and Professor Westin at the LMI (Laboratory of Mathematics in Imaging). His current work concentrates on enhancing functional diffusion MRI sequences to study brain dysfunctions in schizophrenia. Another primary research interest of Ofer’s involves the Free Water measure that is derived from diffusion imaging. Free Water is a measure shown to be sensitive to neuroinflammation. Ofer’s research aims to analyzing this measure along with other DTI metrics to better understand the relationship between neurodegeneration and inflammation. Free Water is being explored in schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, and Multiple Sclerosis.
