Elena is a PhD student at Child Brain Research and Imaging in Neuroscience (cBRAIN), Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich where she focuses on studying the effects of repetitive head impacts on brain structure and function in adolescent soccer players using advanced neuroimaging methods (supervised by Prof. Inga Koerte, Prof. Tim Meyer, Dr. Igor Yakushev and Dr. Michaela Bonfert). She has a background in Sports Science, Psychology and Neuroscience and is enrolled as a PhD student in the Graduate School of Systemic Neuroscience in Munich since October 2019. She has joined the PNL as a summer intern in 2018 and now re-joined the PNL as a visiting PhD student. Her main interest are the effects of sports on brain health including both alterations after sports-related brain injury as well as the positive effects of sports as prevention and therapy.
