Dr. Ann K. Shinn is a psychiatrist whose primary research interest is in better understanding the neurobiology underlying various symptom dimensions in psychotic disorders. She has a National Institutes of Health K23 Award to investigate auditory, speech/language, and cognitive networks in individuals with auditory hallucinations across the psychosis spectrum. In this research, she functionally localizes brain areas involved in hearing, speech/language, and cognitive inhibition at a subject-specific level, and then uses these functionally identified regions as seeds to investigate functional and structural connectivity using functional MRI and MR diffusion tractography. While a member of the Psychiatric Neuroimaging Lab, Dr. Shinn is based primarily at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, where she is Co-Medical Director of the McLean OnTrack first episode psychosis program and Director of Clinical Research in the McLean Hospital Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder Program.
