Ana Maria received her M.D. degree from Universidad del Valle, Colombia, in 2013, and her MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London in 2015. Her research interests lie in studying the links between brain function and structure, in an effort to increase our understanding of the neurobiological basis of psychiatric disorders. During her MSc, she became interested in neuroimaging while working on a diffusion tensor imaging study, aimed at exploring the associations between age-related changes in white matter microstructure and cognitive performance. She joined the PNL in July 2016 to gain expertise in tractography analysis. She is currently studying the connectivity of subcortical structures in schizophrenia and alcoholism, under the supervision of Marek Kubicki, Nikos Makris and James Levitt.
